When I journeyed to connect to the materials and the incarnating drum soul, before I began crafting, I was shown images, and connected to energies, representing the curiosity, bravery and adventure of a young boy. It was masculine imagery; young, open hearted, deeply curious and inquisitive.

I had a sense of wandering in nature, climbing trees, looking under rocks, collecting specimens then coming home with pockets full of gathered treasures. I saw many items hanging from the drum, feathers, shells and much more.

After crafting the drum, I was absolutely blown away by how many Spirit faces there are held within the face. So many animals! I’ve never seen anything like it before.

I walk around my studio, looking in all my jars, jugs, and bowls, searching and asking…what wanted to be part of this drum. The drum very happy to have inclusions. Feathers, shells, and some shed snake skin for the beater…I felt like more could be added, then it came to me, to leave space for whoever this drum calls to, to add if it feels right. Always ask, the drum and the object.

I’ve included two beaters with this shamanic drum, each producing a very different voice from the drum. Both using great quality materials, sheepskin, suede, sheep's wool, rabbit fur, snake skin. One made from ash, the other smaller one, possibly willow, I'm not sure.

So, there’s something around abundance, plenty, richness of life with this drum too.

I can’t wait to see where this one goes and to hopefully learn some of its journey in time.
