Here are the notes I took following my journey to connect to the hide, hoop and drum soul.
'Red rose, peony, elder, California spice bush (were added to the soaking womb waters) The message received is one of LOVE, the power and potency of scent to arouse feelings and emotions. Radiating love, neither masculine or feminine but as a representation of the union of both. Passion, vibrant life force, without trying or force or pressure; instead gentle loving expansion.
I heard without asking Magdala, Maggie.
The goat brought messages of family in the broad and whole sense. The willow brough messages of flexibility, movement around obstacles, bend & flow.
The drum soul showed me aspects of Mary Magdalen energy, deep compassion, unwavering and all encompassing love. something that just is, and cannot be altered by any intrusion. Without judgement. A dark beauty in the whole sense of darkness (not in the negative way we have been taught to view darkness but as a depth of wholeness and as being an aspect that without which life has no depth or richness) This drum brings acceptance of all that is. We cannot have one without the other. With such clarity and sureness.'
The beater is made from a birch stick, some of the goat hide, a soft collar of dark rabbit fur (ethically sourced) and a chamoise head filled with sheep's wool.
A powerful voice.
Magdala meaning: Tower or fortified. I feel this drum holds that fortification of what it holds.
Black Obsidian: grounding, sheilding against negativity, clearing emotional blockages.
